IS Claims Bomb Attack On UN Convoy In Iraq

The Islamic State (IS) militant group has claimed responsibility for an attack on a UN convoy near the Baghdad airport.

The militants said a November 17 statement one of their fighters identified as "Abu Muawiya al-Falluji" rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into the UN convoy on November 16.

The IS statement claimed the attack was for the "United Nations waging war against Muslims."

The UN confirmed the November 16 attack but said none of its personnel were killed or injured, although Iraqi police said three other people were injured in the attack.

The IS statement spoke of "many dead," including Americans and claimed the Iraqi government had taken away the bodies of U.S. personnel.
