A suicide bomber has killed at least 13 people in an attack in the city of Balad, 80 km north of Baghdad.

The attack on a crowded cafe on August 12 also wounded more than a dozen others.

Militants have carried out a number of attacks on cafes in recent weeks during the recently concluded Muslim holy month of Ramadan, when many Iraqis went to cafes after breaking their daytime fast.

The attack came just weeks after assaults on prisons near Baghdad, also claimed by the Al-Qaeda front group, freed hundreds of prisoners including leading militants.
