A wave of car-bombings in and around Baghdad has left at least 60 dead and more than 200 injured.
According to Iraqi officials, at least 11 bombings struck nine districts of the capital and one went off in the suburb of Mahmudiyah.
In addition, two blasts hit the town of Kut, two exploded in Samawa, and one hit Basra -- all in the south.
Casualty reports are still coming in, but officials put the toll at least 48 dead and 226 injured in at least 17 blasts.
The monitoring group Iraq Body Count says more than 800 people have been killed in violence in July.
The violence has revived fears of the renewal of a full-blown sectarian conflict between the country's Shi'ite majority and its Sunni and Kurdish minorities.
