An American woman who calls herself "Jihad Jane" has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a U.S. court for a failed plot to kill a Swedish artist who offended Muslims.
Colleen LaRose, 50, had pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to kill Lars Vilks over his series of drawings depicting the Prophet Muhammad as a dog.
LaRose, who had converted to Islam online, had told investigators she was following orders from alleged Al-Qaeda operatives when she traveled to Europe in 2009 to target Vilks.
Growing frustrated with her co-conspirators, six weeks later she returned to Philadelphia, where she was arrested.
Vilks was never attacked.
LaRose could have faced life in prison, but the judge cited her extensive cooperation with investigators in handing down her sentence.
She has already served more than four years.
