A popular news website in Kazakhstan, Ulysmedia.kz, has been attacked by hackers. The website's editor in chief, Samal Ibraeva, told RFE/RL that her personal data and pictures of her and her relatives appeared on the website's homepage on January 18, after which the site had to suspend its operations. Ibraeva says the attack was most likely linked to the website's professional activities, adding that it has faced several similar attacks since last year. Ulysmedia is an independent outlet that publishes articles in Russian and Kazakh about the realities of social and political life in Kazakhstan.
