Kazakh Oil Firms Want Stakes in Belarusian Refineries

Kazakhstan's ambassador to Belarus says state-affiliated Kazakh oil firms are interested in obtaining ownership stakes in Belarusian oil refineries.

Speaking to journalists in Minsk on March 28, Erghali Bolegenov said oil refineries in Belarus are “very attractive for their modernized technologies and deep refining capabilities.”

Bolegenov added that Kazakhstan is also interested in the delivery of crude oil to Belarusian refineries and increasing the amount of Kazakh oil transiting Belarusian territory.

Bolegenov says Kazakhstan and Belarus are both in talks on the issue with Russia.

The three countries, along with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, are members of the Eurasian Economic Community.
