AQTOBE, Kazakhstan -- Hearings have begun in Kazakhstan for a lawsuit seeking compensation for a victim of the first-ever suicide bombing against the National Security Committee (KNB), RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.
The court in the northwestern city of Aqtobe that Zhenisbek Moldin is demanding 10 million tenges ($65,900) from the KNB as compensation for injuries and moral damages allegedly sustained in the bomb attack on KNB headquarters in May.
Moldin, who was visiting the building on the day of the attack, accuses the KNB of failing to secure the safety of all those inside.
Aqtobe resident Rakhimzhan Makhatov, 25, blew himself up at the entrance to the KNB's Aqtobe branch on May 17. Two KNB employees and a businessman were injured in the blast.
Kazakh authorities announced later that Makhatov was a member of an extremist Islamic group.
