Kuwait Gets $1 Billion In Iraqi Reparation

The United Nations has released more than $1 billion in Iraqi compensation to Kuwait, in the latest payment of a war reparation scheme that began in 1994.

The payment brings the total compensation paid over the invasion and occupation of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein's regime to $35.4 billion.

A further $17 billion is due.

The compensation is being paid from a UN reparation fund into which Iraq is required to put five percent of its oil and gas revenues.
