French President Emmanuel Macron has told dozens of world leaders and company executives that "we are losing the battle" against climate change.

Speaking at the "One Planet" summit in France, Macron said the global fight against climate change was "not moving quickly enough" and urged the assembled heads of states, ministers, and executives "to act."

The French leader has sought to boost the 2015 Paris climate accord on curbing emissions, which U.S. President Donald Trump renounced earlier this year.

The agreement was signed by 195 countries.

"We must all act because we will all be held to account," Macron told the gathering on an island in the River Seine. "We cannot say we did not know."

The summit focused on increasing investment in green energy and decreasing dependency on fossil fuels.

No internationally binding commitments were made at the December 12 summit.
