Another Makarevich Concert Canceled, This Time In St. Petersburg

Andrei Makarevich

A concert by Russian rock musician Andrei Makarevich in St. Petersburg has been canceled following his public criticism of Moscow over the conflict in Ukraine.

Makarevich was scheduled to perform with jazzman Ildar Kazakhanov at the Jagger Club in Russia's second-largest city on September 28.

Club officials said on September 22 that the concert had been canceled due to "the artist's inability to take part in the event." It did not say which musician could not make it.

Makarevich, frontman of the legendary band Mashina Vremeni (Time Machine), has had concerts in several Russian cities canceled in recent days.

Pro-Kremlin lawmakers and commentators branded Makarevich a traitor after he gave concerts in Ukraine for refugees from the eastern part of the country, where government forces have been fighting pro-Russian separatists.
