German Chancellor Angela Merkel paid tribute to her mentor Helmut Kohl as a great German and European. She said Kohl, who died on June 16 at the age of 87, led the two most important tasks in recent German history -- the reunification of Germany and the unification of Europe. She added that the former chancellor and leader of her Christian Democratic Union party had changed her life as well, after she was raised in former communist East Germany. (Reuters)
