Merkel To Testify On 2009 Konduz Air Strike

German Chancellor Angela Merkel addresses soldiers during a visit to Kunduz last year.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is scheduled to testify in a parliamentary probe into a 2009 air strike in Afghanistan against the Taliban in which Afghan civilians were also killed.

The strike on two fuel tankers hijacked by the Taliban near the town of Konduz was ordered by a German commander and killed up to 142 people.

Germany's defense minister and army chief of staff resigned amid allegations of a cover-up over the raid.
