European Council President Donald Tusk is meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on March 4 for talks about how to deal with the migrant crisis.
Tusk has said that the number of migrants arriving in the European Union after passing through Turkey is far too high.
He was expected to push Erdogan for more help with the crisis, a day after he issued a warning for economic migrants to stay away from the EU.
Tusk's visit comes at the end of a diplomatic tour that has taken him from Vienna, the Balkans, and Athens in an effort to get countries along the so-called Balkan route for migrants to coordinate their efforts.
He has been speaking to leaders about a draft EU plan to create an EU coastguard system and strengthen Greece's external border -- which is the main entry point for refugees and migrants fleeing war, persecution, and poverty from the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
Leaders from Turkey and the EU are scheduled to meet in Brussels on March 7 for a summit dealing with the migrant crisis.
