MOSCOW -- Police in the Russian capital have detained two men on suspicion of selling counterfeit U.S. currency, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The Moscow City Police Department told journalists that police apprehended a Ukrainian citizen and a man from the Russian city of Tyumen who were trying to sell $100,000 in forged notes for 1.4 million rubles ($45,000).

That official exchange rate is 31.1 rubles to the dollar.

The two men have been arrested and sent to a pretrial detention center in Moscow.

Police officials say the confiscated forged dollar bills are very hard to distinguish from the real thing.
