Two More Arrested In Deadly French Truck Attack

French officials say police have arrested two more people in connection with the truck attack in the resort city of Nice that killed at least 84 people and injured about 300 others.

News agencies quoted unnamed judicial officials as saying a man and a woman were detained on the morning of July 17 in Nice, but provided no further details.

Five other people are already in custody, including the estranged wife of truck driver Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Tunisian who had lived in Nice for years.

Authorities are trying to determine whether Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was acting alone in the July 14 attack.

Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was shot dead by police after he rammed his vehicle truck through a crowd celebrating France's Bastille Day in the Mediterranean city of Nice.

The Islamic State extremist group has claimed responsibility for the attack, though people close to Lahouaiej-Bouhlel noted no signs of radicalism.

France’s Prime Minister Manuel Valls said on July 17 that IS "is encouraging individuals unknown to our services to stage attacks."

"That is without a doubt the case in the Nice attack,” he added.
