North Korea has threatened to carry out a "preemptive" nuclear strike against its enemies amid heightened tensions on the peninsula.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said: "Since the United States is about to ignite a nuclear war, we will be exercising our right to preemptive nuclear attack against the headquarters of the aggressor."
The move comes after Pyongyang threatened to scrap the 60-year truce that ended the Korean War, citing the threat of UN sanctions and annual South Korea-U.S. military drills.
It also comes ahead of a vote at the UN Security Council on March 7 on a resolution imposing tighter sanctions on Pyongyang following its third nuclear test recently.
Experts say Pyongyang does not have the capacity to deliver a nuclear strike on the United States.
