Clash In Northwest Pakistan Kills Six Militants, Five Tribesmen

A clash in Pakistan's northwest has left six militants and five members of an anti-Taliban militia dead.

The firefight took place late on October 5 in the Akakhel village of the Khyber tribal district near the Afghan border.

Officials told news agencies privately that the attackers were linked to Lashkar-e Islam, an outlawed militant group active in the region.

Islamist insurgents routinely attack security forces and pro-government tribesmen in Khyber, which serves as a major supply route for U.S. and NATO troops battling the Taliban in Afghanistan.
