Hospital officials say at least two people were killed in a third day of violent unrest in Iraq's Kurdistan region on October 10 as protesters attacked and torched several political party offices in Sulaymaniyah Province.
A local hospital spokesman said two people died of gunshot wounds in the town of Kalar. The third was burned to death after protesters in the town of Qaladize set the Kurdistan Democratic Party office ablaze, said the deputy head of the local hospital, Osman Ali.
Thousands of people demonstrated in the city of Sulaymaniyah, Kalar and in several other towns on October 10, demanding that acting regional President Massud Barzani step down.
Two protesters were shot dead in similar circumstances on October 9 in Qala Diza, further north.
Barzani's mandate expired in August and political talks over his succession have failed.
The stalemate has polarized Kurdish politics and compounded an economic crisis that began last year when Baghdad slashed funds to the region.
