Nearly 50 people were killed in attacks in Pakistan on June 30.

The deadliest attack targeted a Shi'ite mosque in Quetta, the capital of southwest Balochistan Province.

Details were sketchy, but police said it appeared an exploding hand grenade forced people to run in the direction of the mosque, where a suicide bomber detonated his explosives.

Officials said security forces prevented the bomber from entering the mosque, limiting the death toll to 28. Dozens more were wounded.

Earlier, a car bomb exploded while a convoy of paramilitary troops was traveling near the city of Peshawar, killing at least 17 and wounding many more.

Elsewhere in the northwest, a roadside bomb struck an army convoy, killing four soldiers in the North Waziristan tribal area.

No one has claimed responsibility for any of the attacks.
