Pakistan Says Soldier Killed By Militant Gunfire From Afghanistan

Pakistan says militants have fired from across the border with Afghanistan, killing a member of the Pakistani paramilitary Frontier Corps and wounding two others.

The “terrorists fire” targeted a border post in the Manzaikai area in the southwestern province of Balochistan, the military said in a statement on November 3.

“Pakistan has consistently been raising the issue with Afghanistan authorities for effective border management on their side of the border to [prevent] cross-border terrorist incidents,” it said.

The two neighbors often accuse each other of turning a blind eye to militants operating along their shared border, which stretches some 2,500 kilometers across mountainous terrain.

Pakistan considers the frontier, known as the Durand Line, to be an international border. Afghanistan rejects the colonial-era border that was created in 1893.

In 2017, Pakistan started building a fence along the border to improve security, a move that sparked condemnations in Kabul.
