Britain Moves To Ban Pakistani Taliban

Britain has moved to ban the Pakistani Taliban as a terrorist group, making it illegal to belong to or raise funds for the organisation in Britain.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, an Al-Qaeda-linked group, is the main militant alliance based in northwestern Pakistan.

It has claimed responsibility for deadly attacks in Pakistan and last year threatened attacks on the United States and Europe.

Home Secretary Theresa May said the group would be banned under Britain's Terrorism Act.

The measure, which needs legislative approval, was introduced in parliament today and will be debated later this week.
