Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly bestowed medals on a group of businessmen and leaders of state companies for their contributions in organizing the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February.
Russia's "Vedomosti" newspaper cited an unnamed Kremlin source on June 3 as saying that Putin, in late March, had honored various oligarchs and businessmen, including Gazprom chief Aleksei Miller, the president of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin, and tycoons such as Oleg Deripaska and Viktor Vekselberg.
Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, refused to comment on why the awards and honorary orders had not been made public.
Last month, "Vedomosti" revealed that Putin had signed a decree on April 22 -- marked "for internal use" only -- honoring more than 300 journalists for their "objective coverage" of Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in March.
