An unknown assailant attacked a female employee of the Mikhail Frunze Museum in Kyrgyzstan's capital and stolen three Soviet-era flags.
Frunze was a Red Army commander in the 1917-22 Russian Civil War who was born in Bishkek.
The city was called Frunze between 1926 and 1991, the year Kyrgyzstan gained independence in the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Museum officials told RFE/RL on September 1 that the incident had taken place on August 30.
They said the attacker, described as a man in his 30s, stole two Red Army banners and a flag reading, "Workers of the World, Unite!"
Museum officials said the flags were copies and their originals are in Moscow's History Museum.
