A Moscow district court has arrested a Moscow State University student on charges of attempting to recruit people to join the Islamic State (IS) militant group.
The Lefortovsky District court on October 28 ordered the arrest of Varvara Karaulova, a 19-year-old student who was detained in Turkey in June while trying to cross into Syria. Thirteen other Russians and four Azerbaijanis were captured with her.
After she was returned to Russia on June 12, authorities decided not to open a criminal case against her. Her father told journalists at the time that she had decided to join IS after falling in love with a man -- believed to be an IS recruiter -- over the Internet.
According to Russian television, Karaulova has legally changed her name to Aleksandra Ivanova.
The court sanctioned her arrest until the end of December.
