After the leaders of Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland met in September to discuss self-determination and their constitutional future, Russian media welcomed the news as a sign of instability, even "disintegration," in the United Kingdom. In fact, Kremlin-backed media and online trolls have been supporting foreign separatist movements for years, agitating on behalf of secessionist factions in the UK, Spain, and the United States, as well as those closer to Russia's own borders.
