A popular television channel in Russia has been warned for allegedly propagating same-sex relations.

Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media announced on September 12 that it had warned the EvroKino television channel for airing the 2007 French musical "Les Chansons d'Amour" (Love Songs). The agency said the film contains "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations."

The film was directed by Christophe Honore and stars Louis Garrel, Ludivine Sagnier, Clotilde Hesme, and Chiara Mastroianni. It was one of 20 films selected for the main competition at the 2007 Cannes International Film Festival and won France's Cesar national film award in 2008.

Russia recently adopted legislation prohibiting "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations among minors," which sparked protests by human rights activists who say it discriminates against individuals according to their sexual orientation.
