Several Killed In Iraq Shootings, Bombings

Police and hospital officials say shootings and bomb attacks in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities have killed more than a dozen people.

In the deadliest attack, two roadside bombs at a crowded market in a predominantly Shi'ite neighborhood of Baghdad killed up to 11 people and wounded scores more.

Reports said the bombings, which happened within about a minute of each other, appeared to be aimed at intimidating Iraq's Shi'ites who are a frequent target of Sunni insurgents.

The overall death toll of the wave of violence on October 20 was the highest in Iraq since September 30, when at least 26 people were killed and more than 100 wounded nationwide.
