State Department Spokesman Quits After Slamming The Pentagon

P.J. Crowley

U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley has resigned after slamming the Pentagon's treatment of a U.S. solider suspected of leaking thousands of diplomatic cables and military documents to the WikiLeaks website.

Crowley had said that the U.S. treatment of the man is "ridiculous and counterproductive and stupid."

Crowley made the remarks about Bradley Manning to an audience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

However, Crowley said that: "Nonetheless Bradley Manning is in the right place."

Private Manning is being held in solitary confinement at a maximum security U.S. military jail.
