An Al-Qaeda-linked rebel group has called on its supporters to "crush" rival opposition factions in Syria.
The spokesman for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant made the call in an audio message released on January 7.
It came hours after another Al-Qaeda-linked group in Syria called for a cease-fire with other factions in a bid to end several days of fighting among opposition forces.
The chief of the Nusra Front said the factional fighting benefited President Bashar al-Assad' regime.
Opposition activists say more than 270 people have been killed in factional fighting in recent days.
Also on January 7, the first consignment of Syrian chemical-weapons materials left the country on a Danish ship under a UN-backed deal to eliminate the country's chemical arsenal.
