The Arab League-UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has met briefly with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in an effort to shore up support for a long-delayed peace conference.
State television quoted Assad as telling Brahimi in Damascus on October 30 that the success of peace talks was tied to "stopping support for terrorist groups and pressuring their patron states."
Brahimi, who is on a regional tour to promote the conference that has been dubbed Geneva 2, previously visited Iran.
The talks, tentatively scheduled for next month, aim to start a political process to end the Syrian civil war, in which more than 100,000 people have been killed.
The Syrian opposition is divided over whether to attend, while Assad and his ally Iran said they will only go to talks that set no preconditions.
