An opposition monitoring group says troops loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have killed at least 62 rebels in an ambush northeast of Damascus.
Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the ambush occurred early on August 7 near the town of Adra, some 30 kilometers northeast of the capital.
The group said most of those killed were youths.
The SANA state news agency did not give a death toll for the ambush but said the rebels were from the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra Front.
It said all the rebels were killed and machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades were captured.
Meanwhile, the observatory said heavy fighting broke out near the northern city of Aleppo.
The fighting comes a day after rebels overran the strategically important Minnigh air base near Aleppo.
