Former Tajik Drugs Official Jailed For Smuggling

DUSHANBE -- Tajikistan's Supreme Court has sentenced a former senior official at the Presidential Drugs Control Agency to 18 years in prison on charges of involvement in drugs smuggling.

Ravshanbek Mirzoakhmadov was found guilty of abuse of office, drugs smuggling, and hiding and forging documents.

Mirzoakhmadov went on trial in early August.

He was arrested in March along with several officers of the Interior Ministry and two other employees of the Presidential Drugs Control Agency.
