Tajik Official's Son Questioned Over Deadly Accident

DUSHANBE -- Authorities in Tajikistan are said to be questioning the son of the chief of the Tajik state railway company over his alleged involvement in a deadly traffic accident.

The Tajik Interior Ministry said on October 22 that Rasul Amonullo had returned from Germany this week and was in a Dushanbe clinic, where he was being treated for injuries to his hand.

He reportedly received the injuries in an October 9 accident in Dushanbe that killed three people and severely injured three others.

Previous media reports suggested the crash occurred during nighttime car races that involved a nephew of Amonullo Hukumov, the chief of the Tajik state railway company.

Later, media reports said it was Hukumov's son Rasul.

Hukumov is a relative of President Emomali Rahmon.

The Tajik Interior Ministry described Rasul Amonullo as "a participant in the traffic accident," adding that another young man will also be questioned in the case.
