Taliban Kill Afghan-Australian Man

The Taliban have reportedly executed an Afghan man who fled his home country for Australia some 14 years ago and had recently returned to Afghanistan.

Sayed Habib Musawi, 56, was killed because he had an Australian passport, Ghazni Deputy Governor Mohammad Ali Ahmadi said.

Ahmadi said the Taliban had tortured Musawi before shooting him three times.

"He didn’t do anything wrong," Ahmadi said. "He wasn't a criminal. He wasn't involved in government activities."

Musawi, a Hazara, arrived in Australia in 2000 by boat.

He returned to Afghanistan last May to see his daughter-in-law and grandchildren in Ghazni Province but had been repeatedly delayed traveling to see his relatives because of the dangers of moving about Afghanistan.

It was unclear exactly when Musawi was killed.
