Clashes between security forces and protesters continued in Cairo after eight people were killed and some 300 injured in violence in the Egyptian capital on December 16.
Security forces charged with batons, chasing protesters and beating them to the ground near parliament building in central Cairo.
The protesters are demanding that the military council running the country immediately transfer power to a civilian authority.
The military council has been running the country since President Hosni Mubarak was ousted in a popular uprising in February.
Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri denounced the protests as a "counter-revolution."
The violence is the worst in Egypt since more than 40 people were killed in clashes late last month in Cairo.
It comes as Egypt is holding a protracted parliamentary election, the first election since Mubarak's ouster.
