Travelers Leaving Pakistan Must Prove Polio Vaccine

All travelers leaving Pakistan must carry polio vaccination certificates with them or otherwise obtain a vaccination at border crossings. The regulation came into force as of June 1.

Mandatory immunization centers for travelers have been set up in Pakistan's airports and border crossings since mid-May.

Pakistan's Health Ministry has said that the restrictions comply with a decision by the World Health Organization (WHO) advising travelers of all ages, including pregnant women, to be vaccinated by June 1.

The WHO said in May that the spread of polio could worsen and destroy nearly 30 years of work to eradicate the disease.

It identified Pakistan, Syria, and Cameroon as having allowed the virus to spread beyond their borders.
