Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan travels to Tunisia today as he continues his tour of Arab countries where popular uprisings earlier this year toppled longtime autocratic leaders.
Erdogan's trip, which also includes Egypt and Libya, is aimed at forging closer ties with the Arab nations and increasing Turkey's influence as a regional power.
In Cairo on September 13, Erdogan told a meeting of Arab League foreign ministers that backing an expected bid for recognition of a Palestinian state at the United Nations later this month was "not an option but an obligation."
He also accused Israel of obstructing Middle East peace.
Erdogan's regional tour ends in Libya on September 15.
