The British firm Gaffney, Cline and Associates has conducted a second audit of Turkmenistan's massive South Yolotan-Osman gas field and an adjacent field and reports there might be up to 26 trillion cubic meters (tcm) of natural gas there.
Jim Gillett of the British firm announced the audit results in Ashgabat on October 11, and said these findings confirm that the South Yolotan-Osman is the world's second largest known gas field, behind the South Pars field in the Persian Gulf, shared by Iran and Qatar.
Gillett said the minimal, optimal and maximal results for South Yolotan-Osman were 13.1 tcm, 16.4 tcm and 21.2 tcm.
Gillett said the audit of the nearby Yashlar gas field showed reserves at between 1.45 tcm to 5 tcm.
Gillet said the volume of gas in those two Turkmen fields is "more than enough for supplies to Russia, Iran, China, India and Europe."
