Two United Nations cease-fire monitors in Syria on April 22 have set up a base in Homs, a day after a team of UN observers toured the battered city.
Amateur video footage showed the UN team walking down streets in Homs surrounded by rubble and gutted buildings following months of shelling by government troops.
The move comes as Kofi Annan, the international community's special envoy to Syria, welcomed the UN's approval of a 300-strong monitoring team for Syria, calling it a "pivotal moment" for an uneasy truce established less than two weeks ago.
