U.S. Adds People, Entities To Iranian Sanctions List

The United States has sanctioned nine Iranian individuals and entities under existing authorities.

U.S. Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen said on December 30 that even though the government does not support imposing any "new nuclear-related sanctions" while negotiations with Iran are ongoing, "we will continue to enforce our existing sanctions."

The Treasury Department said in a statement that it has designated five people and one entity for attempting to purchase or acquire U.S. dollars in violation of sanctions.

Asia Bank official Anahita Nasirbeik was also sanctioned for buying or acquiring dollars, or providing material assistance in support of Iran's central bank, the statement said.

And the Treasury Department said that Douran Software Technologies and Abyssec were sanctioned for supporting human rights abuses in Iran.
