U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is sticking with his controversial criticism of the Iran nuclear deal.

In a tweet on July 26, the former Arkansas governor said the agreement "is marching the Israelis to the door of the oven," a reference to the Nazi death camps.

Huckabee first made the comparison in an interview on July 25 when denouncing President Barack Obama for his role in the agreement reached by Iran and six world powers.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz called on Huckabee to "apologize to the Jewish community and to the American people for this grossly irresponsible statement."

Many U.S. Republicans have strongly criticized the nuclear deal struck on July 14, which aims to curb Iran's nuclear program in return for the easing of sanctions.
