The White House says President Barack Obama has canceled a scheduled trip to Asia next week because of the partial U.S. government shutdown.
A statement said Obama would not be traveling to Bali and to Brunei for the East Asia Summit.
It said Secretary of State John Kerry would lead the American delegations to both countries instead.
The statement said Obama would stay in Washington to pressure opposition Republicans to agree to a deal to pass a budget and reopen the government.
Earlier this week, after the shutdown began, the White House said Obama was shortening the Asian trip from four countries to two because the shutdown was impacting U.S. personnel who were needed to coordinate the visits.
