The U.S. ambassador to Pakistan is planning to step down from his post later this year.
Cameron Munter was sworn in as ambassador in October, 2010, and has served in Islamabad during a time of plunging U.S.-Pakistan relations.
But a U.S. official told the AFP news agency that Munter "maintains good relations with both the government of Pakistan and the U.S. government. It's his decision alone. There's no dissatisfaction with his performance from Pakistan or Washington."
Reuters reports that the White House is looking at Richard Olson, who oversees U.S. development and economic activities in Afghanistan, as someone who could fill the role after Munter leaves.
