A former space scientist who worked for the U.S. government has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after confessing to attempting to sell classified information to Israel.
Stewart Nozette, 54, who was captured in an FBI sting operation in 2009, admitted to trying to provide Israel with secret information about satellites, early warning systems, and communications.
He worked on government science and space projects for decades for NASA, the Energy Department, and the National Space Council.
He had worked on the Strategic Defense Initiative, a proposed national missile-defense project developed under President Ronald Regan.
At the time of his arrest, Nozette was awaiting sentencing on fraud and tax-evasion convictions.
