UN Climate Chief Warns Delegates

Delegates take part in the opening ceremony of the 19th conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at the National Stadium in Warsaw on November 11.

The UN's climate chief says all of humanity will "either win or lose" in the battle to cut greenhouse-gas emissions that cause destructive climate change.

Christiana Figueres told thousands of delegates meeting in Warsaw on November 11 at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that "it is time to go the extra mile" in cutting emissions.

Delegations from the world's governments are meeting in Poland to try and agree on principles for a new accord to limit emissions of greenhouse gases following the collapse of previous talks.

Following the collapse of previous talks, negotiators are hoping to reach a final agreement in 2015.

The conference goes until November 22.

Talks on climate change have been hampered for decades by disagreements between wealthy and poor countries -- most notably the United States and China, the world's biggest polluters -- over how to implement measures to slow climate change.
