Western powers have called on Iran to speed up its cooperation with a UN nuclear watchdog investigation into its suspected atomic bomb research program.
At a board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on June 4, the European Union members states, the United States, and others welcomed signs that Iran has begun engaging with IAEA inspectors, but also urged Tehran to speed up cooperation.
After years of stalling, Iran agreed this year to take steps to increase the transparency of its atomic activities.
The IAEA's probe is running parallel to the Vienna talks between Iran and six world powers -- Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, and Germany -- on placing restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in return for ending sanctions on Tehran.
Speaking to reporters in Vienna on June 4, Iran's envoy to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, said: "We believe that we can meet the deadline ... and we work toward that aim."
