Terrorist Jailed For 10 Years By Western Kazakh Court

A court in Kazakhstan’s western city of Atyrau has sentenced a local citizen to 10 years in jail on terrorism charges.

The Atyrau city prosecutor's spokesperson told journalists on October 10 that Aidos Qusanov was found guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist group, financially supporting a terrorist group, and illegal arms possession.

Atyrau and other cities and towns in western Kazakhstan have been the target of security operations targeting alleged Islamic extremists and terrorists against a backdrop of a spate of bomb attacks.

In September, security forces and police killed four suspected militants in an operation following an explosion and a gun battle near a police station in Atyrau.

In a separate operation last month, five alleged militants were killed by security troops in the nearby town of Kulsary.
