RFE/RL is seeking an experienced Journalist to join our North Caucasus Unit in Prague.
In this role, you will produce high-quality journalism across digital, social media, audio, video, and other platforms. You will cover developments relevant to audiences in the North Caucasus region, create original reporting, conduct interviews, and contribute to the planning and delivery of engaging, audience-focused content. The position requires strong editorial judgment, the ability to work independently, and flexibility in responding to fast-moving news developments.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT IN THIS ROLE?
You will:
- Produce and edit news, features, analysis, and multimedia content for digital and social media platforms.
- Develop original story ideas and identify innovative angles for coverage.
- Report from the field, conduct interviews, and gather information from reliable sources.
- Create and adapt content across multiple formats, including text, audio, video, and social media.
- Monitor political, economic, and social developments relevant to the broadcast region and identify stories of interest to our audiences.
- Publish content using digital publishing tools and content management systems.
- Meet tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial and journalistic standards.
- Participate in editorial discussions, content planning, and feedback sessions.
- Take editorial responsibility for your work and, when required, contribute to the coordination of coverage, output streams, or specific content projects.
- Support a collaborative team environment and share expertise with colleagues, including more junior journalists when appropriate.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a journalist who combines strong reporting skills with a proven ability to create compelling content across multiple platforms.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Master's degree in Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- 5+ years of professional journalism experience.
- Strong reporting, interviewing, writing, and storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality content independently with minimal editorial supervision.
- Good knowledge of political, economic, and social developments in the North Caucasus region and related international affairs.
- Established network of sources and expertise in one or more reporting areas.
- Sound editorial judgment and the ability to assess, edit, and prioritize content.
- Experience creating and adapting content for digital, social media, audio, and/or video platforms.
- Proficiency with content management systems and digital publishing tools.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, platforms, and journalistic practices.
Languages:
- Native level proficiency in Russian.
- Working knowledge of English.
- Knowledge of a language spoken in the broadcast region is an advantage.
