RFE/RL's Kyiv bureau is looking for a Multimedia Producer to create journalistic content for the website, YouTube, and social media channels.

The role combines editorial judgment, video production, fact-checking, scripting, and fast-paced newsroom work. This is a role for someone who understands the region, follows the news closely, and can turn verified information into clear multimedia content for target audiences.

What you will work on

You will prepare and produce original multimedia content across platforms, from initial idea to final publication.

Your work will include:

  • Creating and producing original multimedia content on a wide range of topics and issues relevant to the coverage region; gathering, verifying, and incorporating user-generated content (UGC); and traveling on location for field reporting and story production as required.
  • Sourcing, fact-checking, and processing video content in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Tracking daily news and events in the coverage region; monitoring developments in occupied territories and tracking disinformation; maintaining in-depth knowledge of political, economic, social, and military events in the coverage region (occupied areas), Ukraine, and related countries; researching materials and selecting reliable information from a wide range of authoritative sources.
  • Planning coverage opportunities in advance and pitching ideas and topics for coverage during daily editorial meetings.
  • Assembling and editing recorded video footage into final video products intended for broadcast and distribution across various online platforms, and preparing materials for web publication.
  • Adapting and localizing video content created by other RFE/RL language services that is relevant to the target region.
  • Meeting deadlines and strictly adhering to RFE/RL standards for content quality; understanding and applying the journalistic code of conduct and RFE/RL editorial standards; and taking full editorial responsibility for all produced materials.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for

We are looking for candidates with strong news judgment, multimedia production skills, and a deep interest in the region.

You should have:

  • 5+ years of experience in an international news-gathering operation
  • strong knowledge of current affairs in Crimea, occupied territories, Ukraine, and related countries
  • experience working under deadline pressure
  • solid research and fact-checking skills
  • proficiency in video editing and relevant production software
  • the ability to identify topics that are timely and engaging for the target audience
  • the ability to write scripts quickly and clearly
  • experience working with video for digital platforms, including websites, YouTube, and social media
  • a proactive approach to developing sources, contacts, and story ideas

Experience in a real-time broadcast news environment is helpful.

A BA degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is helpful, but not required if you have equivalent professional experience.

Languages

For this role, you need:

  • Ukrainian: native or fluent proficiency
  • Russian: native or fluent proficiency
  • English: working knowledge
