New Macedonian President Sworn In

Crvenkovski (file photo) 12 May 2004 -- Branko Crvenkovski took the presidential oath of office today, vowing to work for the admission of Macedonia to the European Union and NATO.

Crvenkovski, elected last month after the death of President Boris Trajkovski in a plane crash in February, emphasized that improving interethnic relations would be a priority during his presidency and also represented the shortest route to entry into the EU and NATO.

Crvenkovski said the greatest threats to Macedonia were extremism and radicalism and that he would fight these evils with all his power.
